1.4 Support SPCA

There are ways for pet lovers to support SPCA organization they can simply make donation, become sponsor for a cage, and become volunteer for duties at the animal shelter, fostering, any contribution of items SPCA demanded for, and also shop from SPCA charity Shoppe. Let’s see how people can do each one:

• Donation:

AA brochures are mailed out to individuals and companies each year. You can choose to make a one-time donation via credit card, cheque, money order or postal order or make a monthly credit card pledge of RM10 above. You can also help to circulate the brochures by placing them at your office reception counter, on your school bulletin board or mail-outs like newsletters and even greeting cards! This directly raises awareness about SPCA and help to raise much-needed funds to continue SPCA work.

• Sponsor a cage

This program is targeted towards schools and colleges, encouraging students to sponsor the cost of food, medication, and neutering for an animal. Sponsors can contribute on Alpha, Beta and Gamma levels – ranging from RM500 for 3 months and RM2, 000 per year. Sponsors will receive a certificate of sponsorship, photos of the animals that they have helped, a sponsorship plaque displayed at the shelter and most importantly – the satisfaction of knowing that they’ve helped save an animal’s life!

• Volunteering at the animal shelter

There are many volunteer duties at the animal shelter - these include the morning sessions of kennel cleaning, helping to prepare and serve meals to the animals, kennel guides (assisting the public when choosing an animal), socializing the animals, and general housekeeping duties. Experienced dog handlers may also assist with walking the dogs, bathing and grooming them.

• Fostering

A foster parent provides a temporary home for kittens, puppies, dogs, cats, or other animals in need. The preferred length of fostering can vary from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the amount of care or behavioural modification that is needed. The devotion and care given during this time allows the animal a second chance to be adopted by a loving home. The rewards of being a foster parent are many. They include offering an animal a second chance and the added benefit of receiving the love and attention right back from the animal you nurture. You will directly experience 'temporary mother/fatherhood' by raising and cultivating young animals, or learn the art of healing by caring for sick or injured animals until they are strong enough.
