2.3 Human Education

The SPCA Humane Education program promotes animal welfare education, awareness and activities to enable participants to be well-acquainted with local and international animal welfare issues and responsible pet ownership.

More than 2,000 students visited SPCA in 2008! SPCA welcomes individuals and groups all year round. Group visits to the shelter include a 30-minute presentation, a tour of the animal shelter and hands-on volunteer work. International schools like Alice Smith School, Garden International School and the International School of KL frequently visit the SPCA. SPCA also visited by many schools, colleges, companies and religious groups; SMK Puteri Ampang, SMK Hulu Kelang, SMK Taman SEA, SMK La-Salle Sentul, SMK Aminuddin Baki, SM Sri KDU, SMK Taman Melawati, SMK Bukit Maluri, SMK Seri Bintang, SMK Taman Kosas, SMK Subang Jaya, SMK Bandar Baru Ampang, SMK Assunta, SMK Sri Ampang, SMK Maxwell, SMK Pudu, SMK Seri Petaling,UITM Shah Alam, TAR College, UTAR, University of Nottingham, Monash University, University College Sedaya International, UNITAR, INTI College, Sunway College, HELP University College, University Malaya,Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, The One Academy, Taylors College, Multimedia University, Hanxing Academy, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Lim Kok Wing University College, Kolej Damansara Utama,Akademi TV3, Mentoring Malaysia, HSBC Bank Bhd, CIMB Investment Bank, MJ Brohier, Pusat Kebajikan Good Shephard, Sathya Sai Baba Group, Boys Brigade, Lions Club of PJ, Leo Club of KL, and Raleigh International.

SPCA Visits Schools, kindergartens, colleges & offices! SPCA staffs are frequently invited to give educational talks or conduct animal-welfare related activities. In November, SPCA gave a 30-minute talk to the 6th Graders of the International School of Kuala Lumpur on the 6 Pillars of SPCA Selangor, highlighting that kids can help the animals in many ways too! The 12-year-olds had many questions on issues such as adoption, stray animals and euthanasia.
